Umerkot: Lawyers Sensitised to Address Violence Against Women

Umerkot (Sept 17, 2025): A two-day training program on violence against women was organized in Umerkot by AWARE, with the support of the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI). The event brought together a large number of district lawyers, who described it as a rare and valuable opportunity to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.
The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of lawyers to handle cases of violence against women in a more sensitive, effective, and legally sound manner. In addition to exploring legal frameworks, participants were introduced to fundamental principles of human rights, access to justice, and the protection of women’s rights.
Specialized sessions focused on the definition, causes, and forms of violence against women; an overview of Pakistan’s legal system and protective legislation; and the critical role of lawyers in addressing gender-based violence. These sessions were conducted by seasoned trainers, Advocate Bhagchand Bheel and Advocate Gulab Jaipal, who combined practical examples with professional expertise to enrich the discussions.
At the conclusion of the program, Adv. Noor Muhammad, Adv. Mian Bux, and other participants praised the initiative, noting that such training not only enhances legal capacity but also motivates lawyers to work more proactively for justice, equality, and women’s empowerment. They stressed the need for continuity of such initiatives to enable the legal community to drive meaningful social change.
