TTAP launches nationwide movement against 27th Constitutional Amendment, Vows to block Parliament - Achakzai

ISLAMABAD —The Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) on Sunday announced the launch of a nationwide movement against the 27th Constitutional Amendment, with its chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai vowing to block parliamentary proceedings until the proposed amendment is withdrawn.

“The movement begins from 8:30 tonight. We will raise our slogan — ‘Aise dastoor ko hum nahi mante’ (we do not accept such a constitution),” Achakzai declared during a press conference in Islamabad.

Opposition Leaders Reject Amendment, Term It ‘Elitist’

TTAP leader and Awaam Pakistan’s Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said the amendment was designed to serve “the interests and disadvantages of certain individuals.”

“The constitution has nothing to do with personalities — the elite are amending it to protect their own interests,” Khokhar remarked.

Raja Nasir Abbas, leader of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and a key figure in TTAP, accused the ruling alliance of destroying both Parliament and the judiciary.
“The rulers are driving the country toward destruction. We will go to any extent to block this amendment — and we will raise our slogan across the world today,” Abbas asserted.

Consultative Conference and Nationwide Protests Planned

In an official statement, the TTAP alliance — led by PkMAP President Mahmood Khan Achakzai — announced a national consultative conference in Islamabad later this week.
Representatives from trade organisations, civil society, bar councils, and academia will be invited to participate.

The statement said TTAP will observe a “Black Day” the day after the “fake approval” of the amendment. Citizens have been urged to wear black armbands in protest, while lawyers are asked to demonstrate by wearing black bands in courts.

Nationwide rallies and gatherings will follow the conference, with a public awareness campaign already being prepared.

“The consultations will not be limited to the top leadership — intellectuals, lawyers, and professionals will also be invited to share their opinions,” the TTAP statement read.

‘Attack on Pakistan’s Foundations’

Accusing the government of “dismantling the judicial system,” the alliance said lawyers and bar councils would play a leading role in the movement.
Delegations will also meet with retired judges of the Supreme Court and high courts to mobilise legal opinion against the proposed amendment.

Achakzai alleged that a “group has taken control of Pakistan without holding elections,” adding:
“An attack has been carried out on the very foundations of Pakistan — this too is a 9/11.”

He clarified that the movement is not driven by personal enmity, but is a struggle for the protection of the Constitution and democratic values.
