Trump Nobel Peace Prize Nomination: Pakistan Backs US President for India-Pakistan Ceasefire Mediation

Pakistan has officially nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting his “decisive and strategic diplomacy” in de-escalating the worst India-Pakistan military confrontation in over five decades.

According to Islamabad, Trump’s pivotal intervention in May 2025 played a key role in securing a ceasefire between the two nuclear-armed rivals following a series of cross-border attacks that resulted in dozens of casualties and raised the specter of full-scale war.

The ceasefire agreement, reached on May 8 through US-brokered diplomacy, came just as the contested Kashmir region saw a final round of deadly exchanges. Both India and Pakistan lay claim to the region, making it one of the world’s most volatile flashpoints.

In a formal statement, Pakistan praised President Trump’s leadership:

“At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship. His proactive diplomatic engagement with Islamabad and New Delhi helped avert a catastrophic conflict between two nuclear states.”

The government added that Trump’s mediation effort was a testament to his dedication to resolving conflicts through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy.

However, India and Pakistan offered conflicting narratives regarding how the ceasefire was reached. While Islamabad openly credited the White House, New Delhi emphasized that the truce was achieved through direct bilateral talks, downplaying any US involvement.

Under the rules of the Nobel Peace Prize, national governments, institutions, and select individuals can nominate living persons or organizations. The final decision rests with the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Trump’s Ongoing Global Peace Claims Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Trump Nobel Peace Prize nomination comes as the former US president reiterates his global peacemaker credentials, especially in light of current conflicts in the Middle East and Europe.

Trump had previously criticized former President Biden for failing to contain Israel’s 2023 Gaza offensive and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Now, the Middle East is again on edge after Israel launched massive airstrikes on Iran on June 13, prompting swift and deadly retaliation from Tehran.

As of Saturday, over 400 people have been killed in Iran, according to state media, with 24 casualties in Israel. The conflict involves drone and missile exchanges and has drawn global concern over potential escalation.

Despite this, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to diplomacy, telling supporters via Truth Social:

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan… or any other conflict — no matter what I do.”

Meanwhile, Trump has hinted at deciding within two weeks whether to commit US military resources to the Middle East crisis. Talks in Geneva with European foreign ministers have so far failed to bring Iran back to the negotiating table.
