Structural Overhaul: Division of Civil Aviation into Two Distinct Entities

KARCHI, Nov 23,2023: In a transformative move, the Ministry of Aviation has announced the division of the Civil Aviation sector into two distinct entities – the Pakistan Airports Authority and the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

According to the official declaration, the heads of these two departments will now function independently, marking a departure from the previous integrated structure. Under this restructuring, all commercial airports across the country will fall under the purview of the Pakistan Airports Authority.

Conversely, crucial domains such as licensing, flight standards, air transport, and regulatory functions will now be consolidated within the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

This significant restructuring initiative was set in motion with the approval of parliamentary acts during the tenure of the previous government. The separation of the Civil Aviation Authority and the Airport Authority is anticipated to enhance operational efficiency, streamline regulatory functions, and foster specialized focus within each entity.

As the aviation landscape undergoes this major transformation, stakeholders are keenly observing the implications of this structural overhaul on the management and development of airports, as well as on the regulation of flight standards and air transport in Pakistan.
