The initiative, led by the Transport and Mass Transit Department (T&MTD), aims to enhance female mobility through sustainable transportation. The government has allocated Rs300 million for the program.

Allocation Through Transparent Balloting

The electric motorcycles will be distributed through a transparent balloting process. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a student or working woman
  • Hold a valid two-wheeler driving license

Women Opting for Electric Motorcycles

The cabinet noted that electric motorcycles are increasingly becoming the preferred mode of transportation for women worldwide due to:

  • Eco-friendly features with lower emissions
  • Minimal maintenance requirements

The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) will procure EV motorcycles through competitive bidding, ensuring the best price and maintenance services.

Expansion of Public Transport in Karachi

In addition to the pink electric motorcycles, the Sindh government has approved the procurement of 50 new public transport buses, including:

  • 15 double-decker buses to operate on Shahrah-e-Faisal
  • 35 electric buses to enhance eco-friendly public transport

The Rs3 billion project aims to modernize urban mobility and reduce congestion.

  • The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) to establish a vaccine manufacturing unit for anti-snake and anti-rabies vaccines.
  • Improvements to Keejhar Lake and Kalri Baghar (KB) Feeder for the K-IV water supply project, increasing Karachi’s water supply by 1,200 cusecs.
