Privatization of PIA is first priority, Caretaker PM

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24,2023: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has underscored the government’s commitment to prioritize the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

During a session of ‘Breakfast with PM,’ Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar outlined key initiatives, stating that the first priority is the privatization of PIA. The move is part of a broader economic strategy aimed at restructuring and enhancing the efficiency of state-owned enterprises.

Program to train 1 m nurses over the next decade

Highlighting another crucial aspect of the government’s agenda, Kakar shared plans to launch a comprehensive program to train one million nurses over the next decade. He emphasized the importance of addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals and acknowledged the historical trend of people seeking opportunities abroad, expressing the need to create a conducive environment for talent to flourish domestically.

Discussing economic partnerships, Kakar noted the presence of civil and military leadership within the Special Investment Facilitation Cell (SIFC). He stressed the government’s goal of attracting not only regional but also international investments to Pakistan. The Caretaker PM revealed the initiation of various training programs aimed at equipping the youth with essential skills to meet the demands of a dynamic job market.

Changing media landscape

Reflecting on the changing media landscape, Kakar acknowledged the shift from traditional newspapers to social media as a primary source of information. He commended Pakistan’s independent and free media, recognizing its role in providing diverse perspectives to the public.

Regarding ongoing reforms, the Caretaker PM affirmed the government’s commitment to human resource development. He expressed optimism about foreign investors showing interest in sectors such as agriculture, minerals, and other vital areas, contributing to the overall growth and development of the nation. As the government continues its efforts, the focus on privatization and skills development remains central to its economic vision.
