President Alvi urges PM to allow level playing field for PTI

ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: President Dr. Arif Alvi urged the Caretaker Prime Minister to consider level playing field for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and its fundamental rights.

In a statement issued here, it was stated that along with the letter written to the Caretaker Prime Minister, the President has also sent the letter to the secretary general of PTI Umar Ayub.

In the letter, President Arif Alvi said that it is very important for the caretaker government to provide a level playing field to all political parties.

He further wrote that your [Caretaker Prime Minister] statements about providing equal rights and opportunities to political parties in the upcoming elections are a source of satisfaction. I am sure that democracy is the right way forward for the people and the state of Pakistan.

The President also wrote in the letter that public participation in political activities through free media is the spirit of expression and democracy.

President Arif Alvi wrote that there is agreement in the whole of Pakistan on free, fair and authentic elections, political parties and leaders have the right to participate in the elections, and the people have the right to elect them.

He said that the President as the head of the state is a symbol of the unity of the republic, under Article 41 of the Constitution, the President, the Prime Minister and all institutions are bound to protect the rights of the citizens.

Dr. Arif Alvi said that this is why I am sending you the letter containing the accusations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. There was also a discussion in the media about the increasing cases of forced disappearances of people with political affiliations.

He said that such incidents are cause for concern as people’s political affiliations and loyalties change, long detention of women political workers, re-arrests after court relief make matters more sensitive.
