MQM Pakistan threatens to part ways with government, Over Unfulfilled Promises

KARACHI March 25, 2025 – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has threatened to separate from the ruling coalition, citing unfulfilled promises by the Shehbaz Sharif-led government. The party has called a meeting of its coordination committee to deliberate on its future course of action.

MQM Pakistan leader Aminul Haq stated that the government had made commitments regarding development packages for Sindh and Hyderabad but failed to deliver. “The Shehbaz Sharif government had promised development packages for Sindh and Hyderabad, but no progress is visible on the ground,” he said.

Haq expressed frustration over the government’s failure to honor its commitments over the past year and a half. “Not a single promise made to MQM has been fulfilled. We have serious concerns regarding the Karachi and Hyderabad packages, as well as other issues,” he added.

The MQM leader announced that the party’s central committee has been convened to decide whether to operate independently or join the opposition benches in parliament. “We will consult with our leadership and make a decision soon,” he said.

The development signals growing tensions between MQM Pakistan and the ruling coalition, raising questions about the stability of the government. Political analysts suggest that MQM’s potential exit could have significant implications for the political landscape in Sindh and at the federal level.
