Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has made it clear that he will not engage with individuals responsible for the events of May 9th. During a media interaction in Karachi, Mayor Murtaza Wahab expressed his concerns about the criticism he and the Deputy Mayor face for their work. He also expressed surprise at MQM’s shifting stance, noting that while they once advocated for grassroots-level work, they now suggest that projects should be handled by PIDCL instead of the Municipal Corporation.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized the importance of political stability in Pakistan, echoing Bilawal Bhutto’s call for unity. He stated that those who do not align with Pakistan’s interests will not be engaged with, and stressed that national security should never be used for political point-scoring.
The PPP leader highlighted unresolved issues, such as the delay in canal projects, and reiterated the People’s Party’s commitment to public welfare. He mentioned that the Functional League protested for the Kalabagh Dam, but the People’s Party has always prioritized the people’s interests. Mayor Murtaza Wahab also addressed water supply issues in Khadda, assuring residents that solutions are underway. He shared his consistent advocacy for infrastructure development, including urging the Prime Minister to build a motorway, expressing confidence that his suggestions would be heard.
Regarding financial matters, Mayor Murtaza Wahab responded to Kamran Bhai’s requests, clarifying that funds received during Mustafa Kamal’s tenure are now under scrutiny by the Governor. He called for transparency and urged the Governor to address ongoing issues with Port Qasim and Railways.
The Mayor also announced plans to spend 12 billion rupees from the city’s funds on development projects, including the Korangi Causeway and Kareemabad’s Mina Bazaar. He emphasized that these initiatives would significantly benefit Karachi’s citizens.
