KMC Parking Made Free for Public Across Karachi

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced free parking across Karachi, eliminating fees at 46 major roads.

Karachi – The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has declared that all KMC parking sites across the city will now be free of charge, a move aimed at easing the financial burden on the public. Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced the decision, emphasizing that KMC free parking in Karachi is now in effect across multiple locations. He stated that KMC’s financial stability allows the corporation to provide this relief to citizens, as it no longer requires revenue from parking fees. With over Rs 2 billion in its accounts, KMC does not need the estimated Rs 40 to 50 million that was previously collected from parking charges. An official notification will soon be issued, and legal action will be taken against those found illegally collecting parking fees under KMC’s name.

The policy will apply to 46 out of 106 major roads in Karachi, while parking charges will still be enforced in 25 towns and six cantonment board areas. Wahab emphasized that KMC’s financial position is stable and that providing public convenience remains a priority. The decision is expected to prevent unauthorized fee collection and make parking more accessible for Karachi’s residents.

In a separate development aimed at improving road safety, the Sindh government has imposed daytime restrictions on dumper trucks in Karachi due to the increasing number of traffic accidents. Under the new regulation, dumpers will not be allowed to enter the city between 6 AM and 11 PM, with access restricted to 11 PM to 6 AM. Additionally, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has been directed to shift its operations to nighttime within three months to help reduce congestion and minimize road accidents. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah on the directives of the Chief Minister of Sindh. The meeting was attended by the Karachi Commissioner, Additional IG Karachi, Secretary Transport, DIG Traffic, and other senior officials, all of whom supported the move to improve traffic safety in the city.

The introduction of KMC free parking in Karachi is expected to ease daily commutes, while the dumper truck restrictions aim to reduce traffic accidents and improve urban mobility. These initiatives reflect the authorities’ commitment to better traffic management and citizen welfare, reinforcing Karachi’s ongoing urban development efforts.
