KARACHI: Irish Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Mary O’Neill, called on Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House. Secretary to the CM Abdul Rahim Shaikh and Deputy Ambassador Declan Johnston also attended the meeting.
According to the spokesperson for the Chief Minister, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Sindh and Ireland, with detailed discussions on opportunities for economic and cultural cooperation.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah briefed the Irish envoy on ongoing development projects in Sindh. Ambassador O’Neill shared details of her recent visit to Shaheed Benazirabad, describing it as an agriculturally rich region with banana, grapefruit, and mango orchards spread across the area.
The Irish Ambassador informed that a high-level delegation from Irish universities would soon visit Pakistan and Sindh to explore academic partnerships. The Chief Minister emphasized enhancing collaboration between universities in Sindh and Ireland, particularly in the fields of medicine and engineering.
“Sindh’s universities are doing remarkable work in medical and engineering education,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the Sindh Higher Education Commission would coordinate with the Irish Embassy to strengthen educational ties.
Both sides also discussed potential cooperation in the information technology sector. CM Murad Ali Shah informed the envoy that the Sindh government is establishing an IT Park, which has already attracted interest from several international companies. He invited Ireland to join the initiative as well.
“The Sindh government is fully supporting Irish companies working in the province,” the Chief Minister assured.
