Central leaders of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA)including Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, Dr. Safdar Abbasi, Syed Zain Shah, Dr. Fahmida Mirza, and Sardar Abdul Rahim, have accused the provincial leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of misleading the people of Sindh on construction of canals issue.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, they stated that while President Asif Zardari has approved the construction of a new canal, PPP’s provincial leaders are opposing it, calling it a failed attempt to deceive the public.

The GDA leaders asserted that the people of Sindh are now awake and will not allow anyone to rob them of their rightful resources. They emphasized that the PPP’s political theatrics in institutions like ECNEC, NEC, and CCI will no longer work, as the people of Sindh are well aware of such conspiracies and tricks. The leaders highlighted that the public has mobilized to protect the River Indus and will not tolerate any injustice.

The GDA leaders praised the widespread protests across Sindh, particularly in Karachi, with special mention of the active participation of lawyers and women. They also condemned the unjust violence and false cases registered against students, especially those from the University of Sindh and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Nawabshah, for raising their voices for truth and justice.

The leaders commended the women of Sindh for standing up for their rights on International Women’s Day and protesting against the exploitation of Sindh’s water resources. They described these demonstrations as praiseworthy and a testament to the growing awareness among the public.

The GDA leaders labeled PPP’s hypocritical politics as anti-Sindh and anti-people, asserting that the public has now recognized the true enemies of Sindh. They criticized the oppressive measures, such as the implementation of the PECA Act, aimed at suppressing the voices of the public and media. However, they affirmed that no force can silence the voice of democracy and the people.
