KARACHI, June 28, 2025 – Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Sindh Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that with time, drug trafficking and drug smuggling have become modern and dangerous, so government-made weapons and bulletproof jackets have been purchased for the Narcotics Control Department Sindh.
Discussions have been going on with international organizations related to anti-drugs for the last three years while check posts will be set up on highways for combating drugs and a wireless system will also be started soon, he added.
He said, we are also establishing special courts for strict punishments against drugs and drug dealers.
These views were expressed by Provincial Minister for Excise Sindh Mukesh Kumar Chawla while participating in the ceremony of distributing weapons and necessary equipment to the officers of the Narcotics Control Department Sindh and giving a detailed briefing to media representatives.
Secretary Excise Sindh Mohammad Saleem Rajput, Additional Secretary Abul Ala Bhatti, Director General Narcotics Control Sindh Aurangzeb Panhwar, DG Excise Sindh Iqbal Leghari and other officers were also present on the occasion.
Provincial Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that meetings of our high-powered committee have been held for the use and elimination of drugs, in which the relevant institutions, teachers and parents are also part of the committee and with the cooperation of the heads of educational institutions and parents, we will be able to monitor children and control the usage of drugs among students with joint efforts.
He said that the most important role in combating drugs is played by civil society and the media, along with the government, it is our duty to protect the new generation from the scourge of drugs.
Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla appealed to parents through a media briefing to strictly monitor their children.
In response to questions from media representatives, he said that we have met the tax targets for the year 2024-25, professional tax has been abolished in the new financial year, while cotton and entertainment taxes have also been abolished.
He further said that we have recovered more than the target, while we have got a target of Rs 210 billion for the new financial year.
Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that the recently inaugurated facilitation center has received a good response in just 26 days, where more than two to three hundred people are coming daily, more facilitation centers will be opened in Korangi and in SITE area, while we have started 24-hour service and in this regard, the boat basin center has started working around the clock from today.
He warned that after August 14, there will be systematic action against old number plates, we had about 100 thousand ready number plates lying around which vehicle owners were not receiving, but after the campaign, this pace has increased.
Later, Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla provided protective arms, ammunition and necessary equipment to the directors of Narcotics Control Department Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, while also presenting evidence of drug smuggling through modern methods to the journalists.
