The CDA plans helicopter seed dropping in Margalla Hills to promote afforestation in hard-to-reach areas, along with a large-scale plantation drive.

Unique Initiative for Forest Restoration

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to use helicopter seed dropping in Margalla Hills to boost afforestation in inaccessible areas.

The decision, led by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, was made in a meeting attended by environmental experts and officials from the CDA Environment Wing.

Removing Paper Mulberry & Expanding Green Cover

As part of its environmental strategy, the CDA is replacing paper mulberry trees, known for causing severe pollen allergies, with eco-friendly species.

Key Targets for Plantation:

  • F-9 Park: 5,072 paper mulberry trees removed, 10,000 new trees planted.
  • Shakarparian: 10,000 paper mulberry trees to be replaced with 50,000 native plants.
  • Citywide: 10,000 more paper mulberry trees to be replaced with 50,000 eco-friendly trees.

“We believe in a Green Islamabad and a Green Pakistan,” Randhawa emphasized.

Public & Private Sector Participation

The CDA aims to involve private housing societies, corporate sectors, and educational institutions in the campaign. Additionally, plant stalls will be set up in low-price markets under the Ramadan Relief Package to encourage public participation.

Raising Awareness & Media Engagement

  • CDA’s website will list recommended tree species for Islamabad.
  • Media outlets are urged to promote environmental conservation.
  • CDA employees will plant at least one tree each.

“We are taking practical steps to ensure Islamabad remains green,” said Randhawa.
