AWARE Umerkot Marks Human Rights Day: Academic and Civil Society Leaders Call for Safer, Inclusive Communities
Umerkot (December 11, 2025): AWARE Umerkot, in partnership with the District Administration and the Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Sub Campus, convened more than 500 students, teachers, artists, faith actors, community representatives, government officials, and civil society members for a vibrant day-long ceremony marking International Human Rights Day and the conclusion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
Held at the SAU Campus Umerkot, the event celebrated collective action for human rights, gender equality, digital safety, and inclusive community development.
Academic & Civil Society Voices Call for Action

Other distinguished speakers, including Journalist Mumtaz Arisar, Mrs. Ghazal Sindhi from the Police Department, Adv. Muhammad Bux Kunbhar, Mrs. Kiran Bashir, social activist Bansi Malhi, Ali Akbar Rahimoon, and Miss Farheen Magsi, addressed rising digital violence, barriers to human rights protection, and the need for stronger civil society collaboration to support women, girls, and marginalized groups.
Youth Engagement Through Art, Performance & Dialogue
The ceremony opened with a cultural welcome performance, setting the tone for an engaging series of interactive sessions on digital rights, online safety, and preventing gender-based violence.
A dynamic awareness session led by Ali Akbar Rahimoon encouraged young participants to champion responsible digital behavior and advocate for safer online spaces.
Local artists energized the program with interactive theatre performances focused on equality and women’s empowerment. Special students from DPED, GGHS Verho Sharif, and GGPS Jatia Parro presented powerful tableaux promoting girls’ education, digital safety, and GBV awareness.
Panel Discussion on Human Rights & Gender Equality
A multi-stakeholder dialogue on “Human Rights, Gender Equality & Safe Communities”, moderated by Zulfiqar Mari, brought together Mrs. Pooja Malhi, Ms. Ghazal Sindhi, Yasir Mari, and Ms. Hifza Qureshi.
Panelists discussed strengthening community–institution coordination, addressing GBV at the grassroots level, and promoting more inclusive human rights practices across Umerkot. Showcasing Creativity and Community Voices
Outdoor thematic stalls set up by university students and local artists added color, vibrancy, and community participation to the event. Highlights included: Posters and paintings on human rights and women’s empowerment, Cultural music performances, A media wall for interactive participation and photography and a wooden thematic picture frame designed to enhance campaign visibility on social media.
A social media highlight reel of Aawaz-II activities, curated by Rahim Bux Panhwar, further amplified campaign messages on digital safety, human rights, and GBV prevention.

Recognition & Awards
Appreciation shields and certificates were presented to speakers, performers, volunteers, organizers, and special students in acknowledgment of their valuable contributions to human rights, education, community engagement, and digital safety advocacy.
AWARE’s Continued Commitment
In the concluding session, AWARE Umerkot reaffirmed its dedication to advancing human rights, promoting gender equality, and empowering youth through awareness, capacity building, and community-led initiatives.
AWARE continues to implement the Aawaz-II Project in Umerkot with support from Care International and funding from UKAid, strengthening local efforts toward safer and more inclusive communities
