American Singer Brittany Porter Seeks Divorce from Former Malaysian King After ‘Accidental’ Marriage

Los Angeles / Kuala Lumpur – American singer and songwriter Brittany Porter, 30, has announced plans to seek a formal divorce from former Malaysian King Muhammad V, 56, claiming she unknowingly married him during what she believed was a simple blessing ceremony.

Porter, known professionally as Brook Lynn, revealed in an interview with the South China Morning Post that she met Muhammad V in January 2024 through mutual friends. “We had instant chemistry and good banter,” she said, recalling the start of their relationship, which quickly developed into a lavish romance marked by luxury trips and expensive gifts.

According to Porter, the former monarch was “incredibly generous,” spending millions of dollars on travel and presents. In April 2024, he proposed to her with a blue diamond ring “to match my eyes,” she said.

However, during a trip to Oman that same month, Porter said she participated in what she thought was a religious blessing. She later discovered that the ceremony, known as a nikah in Islam, was in fact a legally binding marriage.

Porter claimed she was later encouraged to have a son to continue Muhammad V’s royal lineage, but their relationship began to unravel after she suffered a miscarriage. Despite preparing for a Western-style wedding in California, the couple’s communication broke down.

“I flew to Malaysia, then to Singapore when I found out he was there,” Porter recounted. “He was staying at the Four Seasons, but wouldn’t see me. I climbed the stairwell trying to reach him, but he left in the middle of the night without saying goodbye. His butler later texted me to apologize.”

Porter said she was eventually informed through a friend that Muhammad V considered the relationship over, describing them as “separated.”

Now back in California, she has turned to social media to demand clarity and closure. “I was never given any closure or accountability,” Porter wrote on Instagram. “I deserve a proper divorce and a sincere apology.”

Muhammad V, who served as King of Malaysia from 2016 to 2019, later returned to his role as the Sultan of Kelantan, a conservative state in northeastern Malaysia. He has been married three times, including to Russian beauty queen Oxana Voevodina, whom he divorced in 2019.
