QUETTA: A deadly attack in Gwadar district late Wednesday night left at least five people dead after armed militants blocked the main highway and set fire to multiple heavy vehicles transporting port goods. The brazen assault marks another escalation in Balochistan’s ongoing security crisis.

Highway Police Senior Superintendent Hafeez Baloch confirmed the killing of five people when gunmen barricaded the coastal highway near Tajaban before opening fire.

The assailants specifically targeted three Afghanistan-bound urea trucks from Gwadar Port, reducing them to ashes in the violent rampage.

The Gwadar attack was part of a coordinated wave of violence across Balochistan.

Simultaneous road blockades paralyzed traffic in Turbat, Panjgur, Pasni, Bolan, Kolpur, and Mastung districts. In Mastung, militants reportedly firebombed a Levies security vehicle, demonstrating their operational reach.

Security forces immediately launched clearance operations along affected highways, with clashes continuing into the night.
