Facebook Introduces Monetization for Public Stories
Facebook Offering Creators a New Revenue Stream
Facebook is rolling out a new feature that allows creators to earn money from views on their public stories, providing an additional revenue stream for content producers worldwide. The feature is now available globally to creators enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization program.
With this update, creators can monetize content they already produce and share on their Facebook stories. For instance, a creator sharing a snippet of a recipe video or reel on their story can now earn money from it. Similarly, everyday life updates posted to stories can also generate income.
A Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch via email that payouts for stories are based on content performance, and creators can start earning without needing to hit a specific view threshold. This move aims to incentivize more content creation on the platform by offering creators an additional way to monetize their work.
The launch comes as Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has been actively attracting TikTok creators to its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, through cash bonuses, content deals, and community growth support. By expanding monetization to stories, Facebook is further enhancing its appeal to creators.
Creators already part of the Facebook Content Monetization program who have enabled content monetization don’t need to take any additional steps to activate story monetization.
Facebook’s Content Monetization program, launched last year, consolidates its In-stream ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into a single initiative. After testing story monetization with select beta participants, the social network is now making the feature available to all eligible creators in the program.
In 2024, millions of creators were invited to join the program, and Facebook has announced plans to open enrollment to more creators later this year. In the meantime, creators not yet part of the program can express interest in joining through the program’s official website.
This new monetization option underscores Facebook’s commitment to supporting creators and fostering a vibrant content ecosystem on its platform.
