Sindh Government Launches Online Registration for Benazir Hari Card
Sindh receives roughly 32% of Pakistan’s Indus water (48.76 MAF per the 1991 Accord), yet current shortfalls are very high — about a 45–50% overall deficit for crops.
SUKKUR: Sindh’s Agriculture Minister, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mehr, has launched the online registration system for the Benazir Hari Card, enabling over 1.5 million farmers in the province to register remotely without visiting government offices.
The announcement was made during a one-day agriculture exhibition in Mirpur Mathelo, where the minister highlighted the Sindh government’s commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector. Farmers can now register on the official Benazir Hari Card portal (www.benazirharicard.gos.pk) by submitting their required documents.
Key Benefits of the Benazir Hari Card
The Benazir Hari Card will provide financial relief and support to farmers through:
- Subsidies on seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and modern agricultural machinery.
- Crop insurance and financial assistance during natural disasters.
- Interest-free loans for small and medium-scale farmers.
Mehr stated that the Sindh government has already distributed Rs. 19 billion in financial aid to around 400,000 farmers affected by the 2022 floods. The Benazir Hari Card will further streamline support for farmers by providing essential resources directly.
Agriculture University in Ghotki
The minister also announced plans to establish an Agriculture University in Ghotki, aiming to enhance agricultural research and education. He emphasized that the university would attract students from across the country and help develop new cotton and sugarcane varieties to combat climate change.
Government’s Commitment to Farmers
Recognizing the contributions of women in agriculture, Mehr assured that training and capacity-building programs would be introduced to enhance their role in the sector. He added that the Sindh government, under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is dedicated to supporting farmers as a vital part of the economy.
“The world is advancing rapidly, and we must keep pace. If our farmers are not prosperous, the country cannot prosper,” he said.
The event was attended by Agriculture Secretary Sohail Ahmed Qureshi, Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University Altaf Ali Sial, DG Research Mazhar Kario, DG Munir Ahmed Jumani, DG Engineering Nadeem Shah, PD Liaquat Bhutto, DG Marketing, and other senior officials.
