Sindh launches a crackdown on unfit commercial vehicles, making fitness certificates mandatory to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents.
KARACHI: The Sindh Transport Department has launched a province-wide crackdown against unfit commercial vehicles, aiming to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents, ARY News reported on Thursday.
Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that many commercial vehicles registered in other provinces operate permanently in Sindh without proper fitness inspections.
“These vehicles have fitness certificates from other provinces, but their authenticity and standards are questionable,” said Memon.
Mandatory Fitness Certificates for Commercial Vehicles
To curb rising traffic accidents, Sindh has made fitness certificates mandatory for all commercial vehicles, including those registered in other provinces but operating within Sindh.
- New fitness certificates will be issued through Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) centers in Sindh.
- Certificates will include QR codes and modern security features to prevent fraudulent approvals.
- Route permits and vehicle renovations will only be granted to vehicles with valid fitness certificates.
Additionally, all commercial vehicle drivers must possess an authentic driving license to operate in the province.
Sindh’s Road Safety Measures
To further enhance road safety, the government is setting up new MVI centers to inspect and license heavy vehicles.
This move comes in response to increasing fatal traffic accidents caused by mechanical failures in unfit vehicles.
“Unfit vehicles pose a serious threat to human lives. These measures are necessary to prevent further loss of life,” said Memon.
The crackdown is part of Sindh’s broader strategy to enforce strict vehicle inspection regulations and ensure compliance with road safety standards across the province.
