Taxes on electricity bills major source of income for government

ISLAMABAD, Jan 20,2024: Taxes imposed on electricity bills became a major source of income for the government.
During the last three years, tax collection of 1410 billion rupees has been revealed in this regard.
According to a document, the tax collection rate on electricity bills has doubled in two years.
In 2021, more than Rs 345 billion tax was collected from electricity consumers.
In 2022, more than Rs 461 billion and rupees603 billion rupees in 2023 were collected.
The tax collection is in addition to the actual price of electricity, 25 billion 70 crore rupees were collected in the form of PTV fee, more than 180 billion rupees were collected in the form of income tax. Consumers paid 89 billion 69 crore rupees in the form of additional tax.
