MQM P presents election manifesto with 3 proposed constitutional amendments
KARACHI, Jan, 4,2024: the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, led by convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, presented its election manifesto along with three proposed amendments to the constitution.
Speaking at a press conference held in Karachi, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stated that the constitution, in its 50 years, has failed to adequately protect the rights of the people, necessitating fundamental changes.
The key proposed amendment highlighted by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui focuses on granting constitutional protection to ordinary citizens, municipalities, and district governments similar to the federal and provincial governments. This move aims to empower ordinary Pakistanis and ensure their strength contributes to the overall strength of the nation.
The MQM leader expressed the party’s commitment to complete democracy, advocating for timely municipal elections and emphasizing the party’s efforts to bring the benefits of democracy to the people. The presented manifesto addresses both political and economic crises, presenting solutions through democratic means.
Mustafa Kamal, another leader of MQM, underscored that the manifesto not only identifies problems but also offers solutions. He criticized the allocation of funds in the provinces and accused Chief Ministers of corruption, particularly highlighting the spending patterns of the Chief Ministers of Balochistan and Sindh.
Farooq Sattar, suggesting an alternative approach to taxation, proposed taxing landlords instead of farmers. He emphasized the development of a draft for all state institutions and called for viewing the public as an asset rather than a burden.
The MQM’s manifesto and proposed constitutional amendments reflect the party’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by ordinary citizens and their commitment to fortifying democratic principles in Pakistan.
